Family and friends, Ninkasi vs les bouchons, Skyfall and Cadburys
Hello all, not done an update for ages, and a fair bit has happened, so it is time to see what else has been happening to my dans ma vie lyonnaise.
A lot has happened this last weekend. I have been very busy as both my parents AND my good friend Heather in Lyon visiting this weekend; and it was so good to see them all.
My parents arrived first into Part Dieu, the biggest station in the city. It took about half an hour for us to find their hotel as instaed of taking the metro, we decided to walk it... and about half way along, it started to rain a little bit =( However, it soon stopped, and I took them to Ninkasi for their first meal out in Lyon. I am kind of amazed actually that I haven't mentionned Ninkasi in my previous blogs. If anyone comes across one when in France, please go, because it is amazing!! They make the best burgers I have had in my life EVER, but if you don't want that, you can always go for one of their MASSIVE (and I mean MASSIVE) salads. The morning after, I met with them to get a Lyon 3 day card - it gave them unlimited travel on the metro, buses and trams (like my pass does) as well as free entry in certain museums for the whole time they were here, and got them booked into a tour of Vieux Lyon (in English - they know a little French but not as much as me).
About lunch time though, I had to leave them to meet Heather at Part Dieu, and make sure she got settled into her hotel. That night, I met up with her and Ellie to go for a meal at a bouchon. For those of you who don't know, a bouchon is a resturant that sells typical Lyonnnais dishes - which are noramlly very meaty and quite rich. The highlight of that night has to be this little 2 year-old girl that was sitting at the table next to us in the bouchon. She was sooo cute!!! She was fascinated with Heather's hair, so she kept playing with it, and also gave her a twig as a little present for her. =D
Afterwards, we met Josh, James and Terry for a few drinks in the usual places in Vieux Lyon, which included events such as Heather having her first Jagerbomb (it was her birthday) and watching parts of one of the Terminator films on the TV in an Irish pub we were in. In the end, we stayed out until about 3 am in Vieux Lyon, went back to James' to wait for the first metro - so in the end, I didn't get home until about half 6... Oh well =P
The next day, we all went to see Skyfall, the new James Bond film... and it was amazing!!!! If you haven't seen it yet, you need to. I haven't seen many of the Bond films, but this was defo my favourite. For those of you on your year abroad, you should be able to find somewhere that will show it in English with subtitles in whatever language - as I have heard the dubs are horrible.
After Heather left, I had one last night with my parents before they also left, so I took them to the bouchon, and they told me what they had been getting up to when I had been out with the others. They had been to more museums in a few days that I had been to in all my time here. I tried to take them to the aquarium too, but unfortunatly, it was shut =( It was sad to see them go, but I am looking forward to going home in about a month to see them at Christmas.
There has only been one downside to this weekend... As I was speaking a lot more English and a LOT less French than I normally would have done, my French has now taken a little dip, and when I was talking to my French friends yesterday, it showed. Hopefully, it won't take too long for it to come back to me...
In other news, I have had a controle continu in Japenese (in which I did a lot better than I expected), and I have booked my tickets home - and it cost only about 80 quid!!! For a flight to London and then a train from there to Manchester!! As I said, I only have about 5 weeks here left in Lyon - which is very scary indeed. I am soon going to have to look for a place to stay in Turin. I have been trying to register for them for about 3 weeks - and have only now recieved the username and password needed to complte the process..... Already seeing how Italians organise things.... I have a feeling the first few weeks of Turin are going to be very fun indeed...
It is now started to get really cold here. I've had to bring out the red coat and fluffy scarfs. My mum was saying that she thinks it's just as cold here as it is at home.
I also got a couple of presents from my parents - including Cadbury's Dairy Milk!!! Oh how I have missed you =D
Until next time,
Charlotte =)
