Les TDs, les accents et les idiots qui se sappellent les "pleines lunes"
After having said my timetable was sorted, I decided on Friday to drop two of my modules. One of them was absolutely useless to me and the other one I couldn't stand, and had no idea what was going on - and I didn't even need to swap because I had more credits than I needed to take anyway - and now I have the perfect number, so I can't complain =D
The only thing I possibly need to complain about is the fact that one of my translation teachers feels he needs my approval on probably too much for my liking. After finishing almost every sentence, he asks me if it sounds good, or if there's two options, which sounds better; now, I don't mind helping Frenchies get better at English, but this is taking the bisciut and and is starting to make me question how much experience this guy has actually had as an English lecturer.....
My finalised week is French Language and Culture (which we have to take), Itlalian Grammer, Civilisation and Geography (which is soo interesting), French to English translation and finally beginner's Japenese. What a nice mix =)
I am slowly getting accustumed having my lectures in French (apart from one of my Anglais Theme/Translation) and I have finally made some French friends from my Italian and Japanese classes!!! My French has been gradually improving thanks to them and my family. I have even learnt words from the little 2 year old, the classic example being un pom pom which is a child's word for a gun (think of it this way, what sound does a gun make...?). He has this toy gun and gets very protective of it; it's adorably cute!!
But I now have one big obstacle to overcome that has been pointed out quite a bit by friends French and English - my accent. I've realised now that there is a reason why people STILL sometimes speak English to me after only speaking a senetence to people when buying something in a shop or asking for directions - because I still sound like a typical northern British 'gal. And though it could be worse, it is going to be bery difficult to me, and will take a long time. My friend can pick up accents really quickly (even though if someone asked her to do a certain accent, she wouldn't be able to do it). I can't do either. If someone asked me to speak in a Scottish accent, say, I just couldn't do it! I'd speak some weird Scottish, Welsh and Irish mix.
RANT TIME!!!
On Friday night, I went out with my friends, and it was a good night, apart from trying to get home. I had heard that a night bus (or "Pleine Lune") runs from the Hotel de Ville in the direction of my house. So we went and found the stop with about 5 mins to spare, and a big crowd of people were waiting so we knew we hadn't missed it. The only problem was... it didn't _____ show up!!!! And it was the only night bus that didn't show up!!!! We saw the other 3 come and go, but they obviously weren't going in the right direction!!!!! So after waiting probably a bit too long, I decided to stuff it and eventually sleep at my friend's house for the night. So to anyone in Lyon now, or coming in the second semester, try and avoid them, because there is NO WAY I am going to try them again!!
Not much has happened really other than that, so laters =)
